Emery the Balloon Guy

I'm not sure what inspired him, other than I was bored in my Photoshop class, waiting for a chance to talk the instructor. I opened a blank file and with my mouse began doodling. By the time the teacher arrived, I had wound up with this guy floating on the page:

I didn't really think anything of it, but when a friend asked me his name I, on a whim, decided to name him Emery. Then I was bored in another class (I sense a reoccurring theme here?) and suddenly I was drawing him again, except this time I had decided to open Flash instead and I ended up with a small animation of him, again, mouse drawn. I had kind of thought of different endings, but because  was running out of time, thought it best to just make a quick loop of it which can be seen here.

It got me thinking, though,because I sort of like the concept Emery and wonder if there's anything more I could really do with him. Of course I'm always the most inspired during the planning of an idea rather than actually taking it anywhere. All the same, I doodled this at work on the back of a coupon with a pen when I was bored. I was thinking of someday making a flash comic of it or something. If I ever have the time or motivation.

 

Obligatory First Post

I've been wanting for a while to have a place that I could consider an art blog of sorts. I find it hard to come up with a definition of what I wanted this place to be. But... for the moment, I'm all right with that. It's something new and there's always something rewarding about that.

I suppose my intentions for this blog is to post new art I've been working on and playing around with, as well as some of my doodles from every day life which never usually make it past my notebook. And I hope... I provide the world with something interesting to see.

I drew the background for this blog just today. It was one of my first attempts at trying anything out what I consider 'lineless'. I don't know what I think of the style yet... I think I'm going to have to play with it a little more. There's a certain simpleness and complications to it as well.

In the mean time, I hope I get the hang of this site soon and figure out... what it is I intend for this to be.
